Moen replacement parts are model-specific. A handle, cartridge or spout kit that fits one faucet will not necessarily fit another that looks almost identical. Everything starts with the model number.
Where Moen prints it
On the packaging and paperwork
The fastest route, if the fixture is recent. The model number is on the box and on the installation sheet. It is also on the original invoice if the fixture was bought online.
On the fixture itself
Moen model numbers combine digits and finish letters — for example 84980SRN, where SRN is Spot Resist Brushed Nickel, or 82022BL, where BL is matte black. Common locations:
- Bathroom and kitchen faucets: underneath the spout, on the body beneath the sink, or stamped on the shank behind the escutcheon.
- Shower trim: on the back of the escutcheon plate. You will need to remove the handle and plate to see it, with the water shut off first.
- Rough-in valves: cast or stamped into the brass body, visible once the trim is removed.
- Handheld showers and heads: often on the back of the spray face or around the hose connection.
When the number is gone
Worn-off markings are common on older fixtures. Work backwards instead:
- Identify the collection by shape. Moen designs are sold in named collections — Brantford, Banbury, Genta, Adler, Voss, Eva, Chateau, Dartmoor, Gibson, Align and others all appear in our catalog. Comparing your fixture against product photos usually narrows it to one or two.
- Note the finish. Chrome, brushed nickel, Spot Resist brushed nickel, matte black, oil rubbed bronze, Mediterranean bronze and the gold finishes are all visually distinct. Our guide to Moen finishes explains how to tell the similar ones apart.
- Count handles and holes. Single-handle, two-handle, centerset, widespread and single-hole configurations narrow the field quickly.
- Check the cartridge. On a shower valve, a 1222 cartridge means a Posi-Temp valve, which itself rules out a large part of the catalog.
