Fit and compatibility
This is trim for a Moen Posi-Temp pressure-balancing valve, the kind that keeps the water temperature steady when water pressure changes elsewhere in the house. It installs on an existing Posi-Temp valve; the valve behind the wall is sold separately. Posi-Temp trim does not fit M-CORE or Moentrol valves.
How to tell if you have a Posi-Temp valve
On a Posi-Temp shower the single handle only rotates: it turns the water on and sets the temperature, with no separate volume control, and the valve uses the Moen 1222 cartridge. If you pull the handle out toward you to turn the water on, you most likely have a Moentrol or standard valve with a 1225 cartridge, and Posi-Temp trim will not fit it.
